Gas Transmission Operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is carrying out design works for the new investment entitled “Construction of an inter-system gas pipeline connecting the transmission systems of the Republic of Poland and the Lithuanian Republic along with the infrastructure which is necessary to handle it within, either, the Masovian, Podlasie, and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships”, which will connect the natural gas transmission networks of Poland and Lithuania. The parties to the project are the companies: GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. – operator of the Polish gas transmission system, as well as AB Amber Grid – operator of the Lithuanian gas transmission system.

NORTHERN SECTION

The investment is implemented pursuant to the provisions of the Act of April 24, 2009, on investments related to the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal in Świnoujście (Journal of Laws of RP of 2014, item 1501, as amended), the so-called the special purpose Gas Act.

The northern section of the designed high-pressure gas pipeline – approx. 185 km long and 700 mm in diameter – will be located within 2 voivodeships: Podlasie and Warmian-Masurian, and will run through 5 districts and 16 communes. As part of the construction of this section of the gas pipeline, several above-ground accompanying facilities will also be built, the construction of which is necessary for the sake of proper and safe use of the infrastructure. They are the so-called Block and Bleed Units (BBU) along with access roads, as well as control and power supply installations positioned on the route approximately every 30 km.
